What's
a COMFEE™ chair made of anyway?
First,
let's see what a COMFEE™ sewing chair is not made of:
- It's not made of reprocessed saw dust, steam pressed and wrapped in pretty vinyl.
- It's not made of reconstituted, glued-up chip board, covered over with embossed, grainlike imitation wood plastic.
- And it's not even made of plywood sheets surfaced with a paper thin veneer of honest wood so that it has the outward appearance of a genuine wood product.
As widespread and commonly accepted as these manufacturing techniques are in furniture production today, not one of them is good enough to carry the COMFEE™ name. COMFEE™ sewing chairs are a better breed. They are real furniture; made from real, honest-to-goodness, genuine hardwood. Specifically, COMFEE™ sewing chairs are made from solid, premium grade American ash hardwood.
Why ash and not oak? Because although the graining characteristics of ash and oak are very similar, ash is the better wood. It is generally tougher than oak and finishes better than oak. And while American white ash ash is renowned for its beautiful graining and finishing traits, its most prized characteristic, highly valued the world over, is its resilient hardness and strength.
In fact, throughout its long and colorful history among civilized peoples, ash wood has enjoyed an enviable reputation among hardwoods, legendary as the wood of choice where performance counts: for dependable weapons, durable agricultural tools, competitive sports equipment, fine cabinetry, and, of course, COMFEE™ sewing and crafts chairs.
Why Midwestern American ash in particular? Because, as a Forestry Department expert recently said, "... the world comes to Indiana for its wood." And it's true. There's a special kind of magic in the Indiana soil and climate that produces superior quality hardwoods unmatched anywhere in the world.
And did we mention that Indiana ash hardwood grows in our very own back yard? Well, very nearly in our very own back yard. So naturally we like Indiana ash hardwood a lot.
