The secret to the extraordinary COMFEE finish, of course, begins with the wood itself. Each finished wood part in a COMFEE sewing chair begins life as a solid piece of natural Indiana ash hardwood. Each piece is machined into shape through an exact series of cutting and shaping procedures. Then, in a multi-pass process, each piece is meticulously sanded to a fine smooth surface. For do-it-yourself finishers this is the way they receive their COMFEE chairs: unfinished, smooth sanded, and ready to be finished. Next, for our "Walnut" finished pieces, a coat of custom blended mid-tone stains, the first of three finish coats, is applied and allowed to dry. Our
"Natural" finish application sidesteps the initial staining
process. This results in a clear, "butcher block" look for the
final finish, a favorite in contemporary decorating motifs. Finally, a generous clear topcoat is applied and allowed to dry. It is this final topcoat that gives the COMFEE finish its remarkably warm and lustrous quality. It's a difference you can both see and feel. But there's even more to the story. The choice of material used in the final top coat of the COMFEE finish is every bit as important as its skillful application. The material we use is called a catalyzed finish, one in which the components undergo a chemical reaction during application. In the world of fine furniture finishes, it is the catalyzed finish that offers the greatest protection from the broadest range of harmful household substances. It is not indestructable, but it is highly resistant to water damage, discoloration, sun damage, and marring. The result is a beautiful, yet extraordinarily durable finished surface. In
the end, it's not perfection, but the pursuit of excellence that distinguishes
COMFEE brand sewing furniture from its rivals. You can be proud
of your new COMFEE Sewing Chair. We were proud to make it for you...
right here in America. |
